Armstrong's Drugs Sign
Thomas Armstrong was born on a sugar plantation
in Louisiana. His family moved to TX, he trained
in Tuskegee and Prairie View A&M College. He
worked in teaching, a funeral home, real estate
and insurance. As an entrepreneur, he acquired
several businesses including a funeral home,
laundromat. He owned Armstrong's Drugs and Little
Sham-Rock Motel and coffee shop and was one of
Galveston's most distinguished Negro citizens,
eventually becoming Galveston's first Negro councilman.
